Birmingham New Street Signal-Box (Bicknell & Hamilton, 1964)
BRUTAL BRUM architectural series by space_play.

This replaces the first edition - with a highly detailed form true to the ribbed facade of the Signalbox.

Free-standing sculpture cast by hand in solid concrete, embossed on underside with space_play logo. The New Street signal box was built in 1964; in the mid-point of the Brutalist architectural movement that flourished from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. The signalbox typifies 1960’s brutalism and is now listed under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. The signal box is acknowledged as “a one off' - constructed on a very difficult and congested site. A dramatic building of exceptional architectural quality with a strongly sculptural form”. Our hand cast free-standing sculpture is the perfect commemoration to this wonderful piece of architecture.
